What Else Is Possible with Resentment?

Hi friend!

Lately, I’ve been pondering on something we all experience at times… Something that can keep us closed off and prevent us from having a sense of space, joy and ease in our lives — and that thing is resentment.

Resentment seems to have this very unique way of keeping us trapped in what I call the structural cohesion of this reality — the ways we’ve been taught to see and hold the world in place.

It comes with this strong sense that someone else made me wrong and can seem totally justified –  almost like something we don’t want or need to let go of!

Yet in doing so, we make ourselves (strongly) right and others wrong. We accuse others of what we ourselves are doing — defending our position, protecting our rightness.

And each time we hold on to “I am right,” we build a small fortress around our point of view. It feels safe, but really it limits us. It shrinks our world, contracts our energy, and keeps us stuck in the density of judgment. (Remember — our point of view creates our reality!)

What we think we’re defending is our being, but we’re often just defending our point of view. Because our being is not something fixed. And as such a fixed, contracted position is never who we truly are, because our being is infinite space — open, free, and ever-changing.

When we choose resentment, it can sometimes feel like we have power in the situation.

However, the kind of power that comes from being right isn’t real power. True power comes from freedom — from being willing to have no fixed point of view at all.

So what if we could begin to ask ourselves: Am I truly free? Or am I clinging to the idea that being right gives me power?

The truth is, that kind of power keeps us small. The real power of you — the infinite, spacious, creative you — doesn’t need to defend anything.

This is where the practice of “interesting point of view” can help. It means allowing everything to exist — our own flaws and everyone else’s — without resistance or judgment. Total allowance opens space again.

If all we did was choose allowance — for ourselves, for others, for life itself — our world could change in an instant.

Is it time for a new possibility, for you? Would you be willing to ask the following whenever you sense the energy of resentment creeping in?

• What is possible for me beyond this reality that I haven’t yet allowed myself to see?

Until we meet again,
Dain
